The communal water facilities peculiar to France have left us with two anachronistic architectural
features in most small provincal towns, the Lavoir and the Pompe.
This print prosaically called "The Fountain" was sub-titled "A Vision of Loveliness".
As a watercolour it was even more prosaically entitled "The Water-Tower",
and is an early example of a publisher re-naming a subject to add to its appeal when reproduced.
Should you wish to explore the area in France that Sir William spent so much of his time;
This holiday house in the Dordogne can provide
a beautiful experience for those who enjoy the countryside and wish to visit the many towns and villages of great character.
